Walking and Hiking
Frasne and the surrounding area offer you a wealth of footpaths suited to all types of walker. Some will take you on a discovery tour of the village, its natural heritage, history and more, while others invite you to explore the Haut Doubs region and recharge your batteries. Here are a few suggestions of walks and hikes, whether you like to head out alone, as a couple or family or with friends.
The Cessay walk: easy, 45 minutes, 2.2 km
The walk starts at La Ferme de Cessay on the road out of Frasne. Why not pop into the Espace Cessay to learn more about this historical site while you’re there? The walk itself is dotted with interpretation panels featuring Huguenin, a small squirrel and mascot, to guide you along the trail.
Start by taking the path to the left of the farm, then go left again at the first intersection. If you’re feeling sporty, there’s a fitness trail a little further on, with eleven wooden exercise stations to test your agility and endurance. Otherwise, if you continue along the discovery trail, you’ll come across Le Cimetière des Moines, a former graveyard for monks, and a turning on the left to walk to the Source des Moines spring and back. The trail then leads you back to the start of the walk.
The Frasne au fil du temps walk: easy, 1 hour, 4.1 km
Go back in time along this trail to discover Frasne’s heritage and history. Nine totems signs are dotted about the village, providing information about the arrival of the railway line, Comté cheese dairies, karst limestone landscapes and more. We suggest starting the trail at the train station in Frasne, but there’s nothing stopping you from reading the totems in any order you want! This journey back in time is accessible to everyone (those with prams or pushchairs, people with disabilities, dogs on a leash).
The peat bogs trails: easy, 30 minutes to 2 hours, 1.4 km, 6.7 km and 9.3 km
