Connecting with Nature
Frasne lies on the second Jura plateau, surrounded by lakes and mountains. Needless to say, the village is in a privileged natural setting, which you can explore on foot, by bike, on skis and so on. Here are a few ideas for outings that will draw you into the uniquely beautiful landscape of the Haut Doubs region.
Bouverans Lake and Varot Marsh Walk
Not far from Frasne and its peat bogs lies another fragile natural site encompassing Bouverans lake and Varot marsh. A first discovery trail takes you along the shores of Entonnoir lake. Check out the interpretation panels along the way to find out more about the site, including its flora and fauna. Part of this trail is suitable for people with disabilities.

The other trail takes you uphill to the Châtel Véron viewpoint. Enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the lake, Varot marsh, the peat bogs and the meanders of the river Drugeon. This trail is not suitable for people with disabilities.

Family-Friendly Orienteering at Combe au Prince
Head out to explore a small valley typical of the Jura mountains. In summer, the cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails on the heights of Chantegrue become a family-friendly orienteering paradise. You have a choice of several courses that take you on a treasure hunt with your children aged two and upwards. Grab a map and compass and go off on a hunt for the control points hidden in the pastures and amongst the trees.

Watersports at Saint-Point Lake
This lake is one of the largest natural lakes in France. Almost seven kilometres long and 800 metres wide, Saint-Point lake offers a whole range of activities, from swimming and fishing, to canoeing, windsurfing, and paddleboarding . You can also hike round the lake or hire an electric boat for a cruise in a breathtakingly beautiful setting. The lake has several watersport centres, with lifeguarded beaches for you to enjoy at Malbuisson and Grangettes.

Nordic Skiing and Snowshoeing in Frasne
In winter, make the most of Frasne’s Nordic Skiing Area. Head out along a cross-country skiing or snowshoeing trail to discover the area. The site also has a recreational area and a sledging run to keep the kids happy.
Discover Frasne’s Peat Bogs
There is no better place than the Frasne-Bouverans Regional Nature Reserve to embark on a journey into the world of peat bogs and learn more about these fragile and biodiverse habitats. The reserve has two discovery trails
with several interpretation panels that provide information about the bogs’ history, flora, fauna, and more. The short circular walk is suitable for people with disabilities and those with prams or pushchairs.
Mountain Biking, Summer Tobogganing and Hiking in Métabief
Métabief is a paradise for mountain bikers and downhill mountain biking. As soon as the warm weather arrives, the resort at Métabief welcomes all mountain bikers, whatever their experience. With its eight slopes of varying difficulty, its detachable chairlift and its bike park, the resort is a mecca for thrill seeking mountain bikers. You can also whiz down the slopes of the Mont d’Or mountain on the alpine coaster, try out the family-friendly adventure course, hike along the numerous footpaths around the resort, hop on an electric scooter for an outing, and more.
